Redefining “Consistency” To Make It Work For YOU

Consistent. Do you hear this word all the time?

“If you just do this consistently, it will work for you”.

As you are running around trying to keep up with everything in the day the consistency part doesn’t seem possible.

“Exercise 3 times a week consistently”

“Eat fruit and vegetables at least twice a day consistently”

“Get 8 hours of sleep consistently”

“Drink 8 glasses of water consistently”

“Post to social media consistently”

“Send emails consistently”

“Update your Google consistently”….

It is A LOT. 😩

But you do know it has some truth, right?

Yes, there is truth behind the word
consistent.

The problem is how we think about it.

This “word” is not a bad thing, but it can feel overwhelming when we hear it consistently. 😁

The key is that it should happen on YOUR schedule, not always the consistency that you hear.

How To Make A Consistency That Works For You

Consistency is something you need to build into your life, your routines.

This will help it be a regular habit and not just a short-term thing.

I am sure you have heard “exercise 3 days a week for 30 minutes”.

Sure, that sounds like a plan and even somewhat minimal …  but you are working 8 hours a day, maybe also taking kids to all the sports practices and events, plus getting all the meals, doing laundry, and trying to get to bed.

When we want to add something to our life and schedule, we don’t have to start cold turkey and hop into it just as suggested.

Instead, it is better to start something small and build it up once it feels like a routine and not a “chore”.

If we hop in and plan to work it
just as suggested, inconsistency starts because there is too much of it for the time we have.

And then we never add that one thing we want into our life.

We do not all have the same schedules, our lives are different, so the suggested consistencies are great and yes, they can work, but first, they need to work for YOU.

The Importance Of Consistency On Social Media

I hear this a lot in business, “I can’t keep up with it”.

And while a lot of that is based on time, it is also the fact that many feel they need to do something more often than they do.

Why? Because that is what they heard or read.

An example of this is how often you should post on social media.

“You want to stay in front of your audience by posting 5 times a week”.

“Don’t post daily or you will overwhelm your audience, but do make sure to post 3 times a week”.

“Post in your stories 2 times a day, or 7 times a day to reach more”.

It is not
only about the consistent posting, but it’s also that the contradicting information that you hear becomes very overwhelming.

But you hear it and you want to grow your audience, right?

So you try…

You try to create all that you can, gather your words, work links, hashtags and get to work.

And by the end of the week with 5 posts and 14 stories, you feel complete and exhausted.

You now realize you did not have time to get to your email newsletter sent and respond to emails timely as that time went into social media.

And the fun of social media is just gone.

And the next week, you do nothing on social media.

So, what’s the solution?

Sometimes you need to stop listening to the consistency
they say will grow your business and look to what consistency you can do.

Social media is a bear already, but if you can make a small commitment to start and consistently post just once a week, it will start to feel like a ‘cub’ instead. 😁 🐻

As you have that once-a-week working consistently, you can add in twice a week and see how that goes.

It doesn’t matter that you read 3-5 times a week, it matters that you work it consistently for
YOU.

What
you  can do consistently will work to grow your audience and business.

It is time to find
your consistency for what you want to grow.

And this goes for any area of your business.

Consistency DOES matter, but your consistency doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

After all, “a little progress each day adds up to big results”

Consistency is Positivity for Life and Business

Overall, prioritizing consistency in
YOUR schedule will not only make you more efficient but it will help pave the way for growth and stability in your life and business.

It is not about what they “say” to do, it is about how consistent
you can be. If they say 5 times and you say 1 time, that works, as long as you consistently do it 1 time. 😀

You will soon find it more relaxing and normal in your routine instead of overwhelming if you start it slowly and take steps that work for you.

Those small steps will have you walking 30 minutes a day and posting on social media regularly in no time.

If you start with the big steps you hear, you will never walk 30 minutes or post on social media.

As you find new marketing ideas that you would love your business to try, think about where it can fit into your schedule and start small.

Email marketing isn’t just about promoting your business, products, or services, it’s about creating a true, loyal connection, which starts with your audience.

One of the most overwhelming parts of email marketing is figuring out what to say. What content should you share? How do you keep it fresh and engaging? The good news is, you don’t have to start from scratch. Even if it doesn’t feel like it at first, your business already has valuable information your audience wants to hear (that’s why they signed up for your emails in the first place). If you have a website, or you post on social media, you’ve already created content that can be repurposed into great emails. Remember, your audience wants to hear from you. They’re looking for insights about your business, your offers, and how you can help them. As mentioned in this blog post, valuable content is key to building strong connections with your subscribers. Not sure where to start? Here are 5 simple ways to generate content ideas and create emails that engage and inform your audience.

Email marketing isn’t as complicated as it seems, and you don’t have to do everything at once. The best part is that you can start small and grow at your own pace. The key is consistency.

There are many great benefits about Iowa, but for me, having grown up here, the true heart of this state lies in its ‘Iowa Nice’ and small-town communities that make it feel like home.

I am a runner. Those are words that have been tough for me to say. This may sound strange because I do run daily, but sometimes I judge myself with that ‘title’ because of my speed and miles thinking I am not a ‘true’ runner. But nevertheless, I am a runner. I haven’t always been a runner. It wasn’t something I took an interest in, in fact, I would see people running and wonder “Why would they choose to run? A bike seems more fun and easier”. Yes, it’s exercise, but it isn’t that for me, even though I appreciate that perk for my health. I started running in March of 2020, when much of the world shut down all things due to the pandemic, keeping us inside our 4 walls more than ever. After the first week of a weekend that never ended, I needed out of the house more. Don’t get it wrong, I love my family, but I’m a true introvert who also needs alone time, so I went looking for creative ways to make that happen. I started walking more often, checking out new areas and places around the neighborhoods. During this time, a beautiful neighborhood next to me was being built and developed. As I walked the sidewalks I gravitated to this uphill sidewalk that went by some beautiful homes, and for some unknown reason, this hill invited me to run it. Why? No idea, I blame the pandemic, and I did it. And I did it again the next day, and the next. I created my new routine for the pandemic; walk and run a hill. 🤷🏼‍♀️ And then I began to wonder, how far am I running with that hill? I started to track it with my watch. It was not a full mile so I started to run that hill plus some until I had a full mile, and once that went well, I added to it, again and again until I was running a full 5K. I am a 5K runner. As I made my way to the 3.10686 miles (yes, I round that to 3.2 miles) I found big mental clarity with this run each day. It was my peace, my time to think and plan so many things. I didn’t need a longer distance or faster speed, I just needed the run. I started to feel like a runner, and that title started to feel more true, just as the Iowa winter arrived. Having been a self-trained runner with no seasons under my belt, I learned a lesson the hard way. Apparently, white crosswalk paint can be a little frosty and slick in the winter mornings. Long story short, I tore my meniscus. It required surgery. 😑 #tookatumble On surgery day the anesthesiologist called me an athlete as he walked me to the surgery room, and it hit me, “Maybe I am one?” Even though sports have always been a part of my life, I never played them, I was not an athlete. I am a fan full of competitiveness, and with my running, I compete against myself. To date, I have run one ‘virtual’ 5K race, submitting my time to the race via an app. I have never ran with anyone. The run for me is all about mental clarity. I started it for the quiet, clear space of time for myself and have kept it that way. I run early in the morning when there is less traffic on the roads and more sounds of nature. I listen to music, but I truly use each run as a time to decompose my thoughts and plan my day. It’s almost like a morning coffee for me, you don’t want to talk to me until I have my run. ☕️ 🙂 It was tough when I was down for my surgery recovery, but I ran a 5K exactly one month after. My mind is what runs the distance now, if more time is needed to think and plan, I will advance over the 5K, currently sitting at an average of 4 daily miles, but it could be 5 sometimes. So while I say it’s not about the distance and time for me, it doesn’t mean I don’t see those either. 🙂 I use those to push my levels but they are also just a ‘side note’ in my running life. I am a runner, without all the ‘normal’ running details.

Whether change is thrust upon us or something we decide to do to grow business and achieve new goals, it is best to be open to the changes, and more prepared so we can adapt to them and improve our lives for the better because time keeps moving life forward whether we are ready or not.
