I know there are good deals, one that might just ship overnight and arrive suddenly on your doorstep at 4 AM 🤯 but do you know what your shopping supports?
I am someone who loves small business and I feel they are taking a hit because of Amazon.
Don’t get me wrong, I have shopped Amazon, yes, yes I have, but I feel they are changing how we shop, and that is disappointing to me.
So many people are now only looking for sales, discounts, freebies, and quick shipping, and without that, they will go shop at Amazon, with low-quality products, some coming from outside the country.
When you are a small business, that is just hard to keep up with.

I have come across so many businesses with incorrect business hours listed on their Google Listing.
A store says open on the listing but is closed when I arrive. 🤷🏼♀️
Or, I am standing at a locked door, but the hours posted say they are open. 🙄
Why is this happening for so many?
I often hear “we told everyone on our social media that we were closing early”.
Ok, but understand that only 10% of your social media following is seeing your posts. If you have 500 followers, 50 see it, 450 may not.

It’s back to school time! 📚✂️✏️🚌

I sure am.
I always choke back a few tears as my son starts yet another year, and even though he is in High School (🥹) and more independent (🚗) I NEED school.
School = Routine
While summer is my favorite season, the non-routine that it brings rattles me. 🤪
I patiently wait the 9 months each year just to get to the heat of summer, and then feel a bit chaotic for the 3 months it is here. Some of that is good with vacations and family time, but I am a FULL routine person, I need it.
Whether you have children in school or not, I believe school brings us ALL back to routine.
It’s funny how that is. As kids get back to their classrooms, I feel the shift in routine everywhere.
Summer feels done when school starts. Stores head back to their regular store hours, businesses get back to their hours and meeting times, and life feels on track again.
And it excites me, like a new beginning. ✨
As a business owner, this is when I reset my business with a good clean, more organization and most importantly, getting my calendar up-to-date. 🗓️
This is the time to look ahead for all the sports, appointments, holidays, and more and put them on the calendar to keep the schedule organized between work and home.

I was standing outside a store door unable to get inside.🚪
It was in 2021 when I had my first business hour ‘issue’ that has stuck in my head. 😐
I am a runner and my doctor suggested I get fitted for new shoes to help my run, he gave me some suggested stores to check out.
New shoes are always at the top of my list, so I googled the stores and got the hours. 👟 😁
It was a Sunday and the store I wanted to go to was 30 minutes away. The listing said open 12 - 5:00 PM.
I arrived and headed to the door only to notice the open sign was not “on” and it was dark inside ... because they were not open.
I was standing at a locked door.
What?!
It was 4:27 PM. They are to be open until 5:00.
To say I was a bit frustrated is an understatement.
Can things come up unexpectedly to cause a business to close?
Absolutely.
But what I was told when I asked about the hours the next day was ....
“We shared our hour change on our social media.”
Seriously?
Only on social media?
Not all new customers follow you or even know your social media platforms. And some don’t use social media. (it is true)
I bought my shoes at a different store.
Social media is not where business hours should ‘only’ be shared.

Sometimes consistency gets a ‘bad wrap’ as many think this one word means doing more than you want or can do.

I personally use Google, which the majority of consumers do. #googlers 🤓
Many businesses share holiday and store hours on their social media, but their Google Business Profile does not match those hours. 🤔
While socials are a great place to share, keep in mind most posts and stories are not reaching your full audience (ah, algorithms) and stories expire. Sure, you can save to highlights, repost, and reshare, but is everyone getting that information? No. 👎🏻
Your Google Business Profile keeps your business hours front and center for people to see, which is great when updated, but not so great when not. (Don’t lose your customers with wrong information) 🚫
Google is a social platform too, and one you should always keep updated. Even if you need to close just one hour early on a day, update that on your Google, and yes, share it on your socials too. Doing both is a #winwin 🏆
Use it. Post to it. Update it. Consistently. It is there for your current and loyal customers & clients, and there to help you GET FOUND by new customers & clients. 👍🏻

When someone unsubscribes to what I am offering, I simply know it is not for them, that they don’t need the product or service I offer at that time.
Do I get upset about it? No.

Do I panic because I have less subscribers? No.
Do I start sending less emails because people unsubscribed? NO.
Your product and services are not going to be for everyone, and that is OK. Your product and services are going to be for a lot of people, and that is who you keep showing up for. 🙌🏻
DO keep sending and sharing your passion, your product and service. Your audience wants to hear from you, they signed up to hear from you.
I have found when people have unsubscribes they decide to send less, they believe people are annoyed hearing from them. #nottrue
Unsubscribes lead to the question of how often do I send an email?
Can you over send emails? Sure.
Can you under send emails? YES.
So what can you do? 🤷🏼♀️
You create a solid, strategic, and consistent email marketing plan; use the old rule of 7 as a base.
Make sure your audience gets enough. ⭐️
It can take a minimum of 7 times hearing about or seeing your product or service before your audience takes action.
Do not take 7 months to do it with a monthly email because you fear the unsubscribe.
Do NOT fear the unsubscribe! 🚫
Unsubscribes are positive for your business. YES they are, say it with me! 📢
Embrace an unsubscribe for being honest with you, letting you know they don’t need what you have right now. One day they might just be back.

Photos show your audience your business, your brand. Words speak your message; photos show your message; both build trust with your audience.
I personally am very much a visual person. Pages of directions are empty to me, but step-by-step photos or a how-to video are like gold. That is not the same for all, which is why words AND visuals work together, especially when it comes to sharing who you are and what you do. 📋➕📷

After working with a customer or client simply ask them to provide their feedback on their good experience with you. They often forget to do it on their own so kindly if they will leave the review.
Google My Business even has a direct URL back to your listing so your customer can easily leave a review. Email this link to your customer…easy peasy! 📧
Next important step…after your customer has left their review, be sure you respond to it as soon as you can. Google favors those who are responsive quickly, and it shows your gratitude to your customer for the review. Don’t leave any review unanswered. #nonono
